Coggins Test
A Coggins test is a blood test for antibodies against Equine Infectious Anemia Virus. It is named after test developer Leroy Coggins, DVM. Equine infectious anemia (EIA) is an infectious and potentially fatal viral disease of horses.
At your appointment for Coggins testing, blood will be drawn from your horse for submission to a certified lab for testing. Your horse will need to be identified by its appearance (color, sex, markings, breed). CVES uses digital electronic lab submissions (including digital pictures of your horse) to accurately and rapidly obtain your horse's test results and expedite delivery of the certificate to you. Please have your horse groomed sufficiently so that pictures can illustrate its markings. This request form should be submitted to ensure the accuracy of information.
